Ilva workers blocked the Eni refinery in Taranto from October 12. It supplies Puglia, Basilicata, and Calabria. More than 50 stations ran dry early; later over 150 Enilive stations in Puglia were empty. Long lines formed and many pumps said sold out.
Truckers and farmers near Foggia blocked roads at the same time. Diesel was above €2.20 a liter and government aid had not arrived. Trucks stopped and fresh deliveries slowed. In San Severo and the Gargano, meat, bread, and produce shelves sat empty. Some people stocked up. Gargano mayors said it was near collapse.
The Taranto blockade lifted the morning of October 16. Deliveries should restart, but stations take days to refill. Truckers stayed out in parts of the South, some through October 20. National truckers threatened wider action. The agriculture minister called blocking supplies a crime.
