Oil stays near $109 after Ukraine’s 1,000-drone strike on St. Petersburg and ongoing Middle East attacks

Brent crude traded around $108.82–$109 on Sunday after settling at $109.86 Friday, its highest close since May. WTI held near $101. Ukraine’s overnight attack of more than 1,000 drones set fires at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal and Ruchi depot. The terminal handles about 120,000 barrels per day of refined products. Russia said it downed 1,015 drones. The strikes followed Trump’s October 11 claim of an “energy ceasefire,” which neither side fully accepted, and his later description of Ukrainian oil attacks as a “disgrace.” Separate reports noted a Saudi helicopter crash near the Yemen border, Houthi targeting of Yanbu, and two tankers hit in the Persian Gulf. The IEA earlier agreed to release more than 20 million barrels of fuel.
