The Justice Department on Thursday charged 15 people in California health care fraud schemes totaling over $1.8 billion in bogus claims. The biggest piece is a $1.6 billion scheme where Nathan Young, his father David Young, and two Texas “body brokers” allegedly flew addicts and homeless people from around the country into Southern California, put them in sham detox facilities, and billed private insurers. Prosecutors say patients were sometimes given drugs or sedatives so they would not leave, and some were blocked from departing while the facilities kept billing. Eight people were arrested. The case is the largest substance abuse treatment fraud the DOJ has ever prosecuted.
The biggest of the busts announced today is a $1.6 BILLION (with a B) fraud ring that was allegedly paying to fly addicts into LA from all over the country, putting them into a fake detox program, then giving them sedatives to keep them from ever leaving.
Profoundly evil. https://t.co/ZyzmEfiphe
