This won’t be a New York Times front page story today: Syria’s three major churches condemn the US-British-French airstrikes against the Syrian state, declaring that Assad protects Syria’s Christian minority and noting that this aggression will only encourage jihadist groups.

It does seem that the covert aim of regime change, which some have suggested lay at the heart of US/UK intervention in Syria, would indeed destabilize a perilous balance.

Creating a power vaccum to advance geopolitical interests, and thus exposing minority groups to persecution, seems to be an untended consequence of the conspiracy to engage in regime change in Syria.
