Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) told CNN he plans to trigger a vote to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth when Congress returns next week. The move comes after Republicans suffered heavy losses in the November 3 midterms, with GOP lawmakers increasingly blaming Hegseth for pushing President Trump into the Iran war and failing to deliver a quick victory. Multiple Republican sources told CNN they expect the impeachment measure to pass, potentially with support from Republicans who no longer face reelection. Massie first introduced eight articles of impeachment in September, accusing Hegseth of conducting the Iran war without congressional authorization and violating the War Powers Resolution, among other allegations. House Speaker Mike Johnson previously blocked a vote by sending lawmakers home early. Massie now says he intends to bring the measure back during the week of November 9. Even if the House impeaches Hegseth, the Senate would still have to convict him to remove him from office.
