A school bus carrying Salem High School football players, trainers, coaches, and staff overturned late Friday night near Highway 138 and Interstate 20 in Rockdale County, Georgia, after the 74 year old driver lost control while exiting eastbound I-20 and attempting a right turn onto State Route 138. The bus crossed all lanes, struck a Kia Soul driven by 35 year old Calvin Harling, spun, and rolled onto its passenger side on the shoulder. Georgia State Patrol said the bus held 27 people: 17 student athletes, seven trainers, two coaches, and the driver. Rockdale County Public Schools confirmed 22 students and three staff members were transported to area hospitals, including one airlifted, with no fatalities reported. Students and staff received treatment at facilities including Arthur Blank Children’s Hospital, Scottish Rite, Grady Memorial, and Piedmont hospitals. District officials said all students were accounted for and many have been treated and released.
