China Plans Undersea Cable Bases In East & South China Sea, US Wary Of Espionage, Security Issues

China has decided to build two bases to maintain undersea cables as part of efforts to bolster its digital infrastructure. Beijing has decided to build two bases in the East China and South China seas that will maintain optical fibre lines. Under China’s five-year development plan, the country is seeking to bolster its digital infrastructure amid US tensions. Cyber Warfare and Big Data have emerged as new fronts in China’s geopolitical competition with the US. China has made an overall investment of $570 billion between 2021 and 2025 to boost digital infrastructure.
