Four Canadian soldiers dead, dozens injured in fast-moving fire at CFB Wainwright

A fire broke out around 4 p.m. local time Saturday in a training area at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta and spread quickly. Prime Minister Mark Carney said four service members died and dozens more were seriously wounded. He called it one of the worst peacetime tragedies for Canada’s military on domestic soil. The Department of National Defence said there were no indications of terrorism. The cause is under investigation. High winds were reported in the area that day. Hospitals in Alberta activated mass-casualty protocols.
