Globalism vs Populism in Russia’s Economy

In the eightieth of the Russian Newspapers Monitor, Professor Filip Kovacevic discusses the articles from four Russian newspapers: Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Trud, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, and Sovietskaya Rossiya. He discusses the political views of Russians who live in the United States. He also talks about corruption within the Russian ruling class and about what the Russian president Vladimir Putin needs to do to keep his high popularity ratings. In addition, Professor Kovacevic chronicles the completion of one of the most important geostrategic infrastructure projects in Russian history – the Crimean bridge connecting the Crimean Peninsula to the Russian mainland. Lastly, he takes a look at how the largest opposition party in the Russian Parliament, the Communist Party of Russia, celebrated its most important holiday – the International Workers’ Day on May 1- and discusses its post-presidential-election political platform.
