Israel announced Tuesday it was sending a delegation of experts on natural disasters to help Brazil combat the fires ravaging its Amazon basin.
“An Israeli delegation of firefighters and rescue experts is leaving for Brazil on Tuesday evening to help the local authorities,” the foreign ministry said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke late Sunday with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, offering Israeli assistance in battling the devastating fires burning across the Amazon region that have caused global alarm.
Netanyahu’s office said Israel would send a shipment of flame-retarding chemicals and noted that the prime minister had praised Bolsonaro for his decision to send tens of thousands of soldiers to join the fight against the blazes.
