The former Missouri attorney general joined the bureau in a new “co-deputy director” position last year before the departure of Dan Bongino.

WASHINGTON — Another top FBI official is leaving the bureau after just a year on the job.

Andrew Bailey, who joined the FBI in the new position of “co-deputy director” in September 2025 to work alongside then-Deputy Director Dan Bongino, is stepping aside, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News. Bailey confirmed his move later Monday morning on social media.

An internal FBI email said Bailey was leaving for family reasons, the two people familiar with the matter said. Bailey had been the attorney general of Missouri before resigning his position to join the FBI last year.

The FBI referred a request for comment to a post Bailey made on social media, stating that he wanted to thank President Donald Trump, Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel for the opportunity.
