Homemade Organic Medicinal Pickled Garlic ( Garlic enhances immune functions and has antibacterial, antifungal and antivirus activities)

by Amy S.

Biological properties of garlic and garlic-derived organosulfur compounds.

Medicinal properties of garlic (Allium sativum) have been widely known and used since ancient times till the present. Garlic enhances immune functions and has antibacterial, antifungal and antivirus activities. It is known to prevent platelet aggregation, and to have hypotensive and cholesterol- and triglyceride-lowering properties, although the latter features have been questioned. This review is focused on anticancer efficacy of Allium sativum, and attempts to explain the mechanisms of this action. Medicinal properties of garlic rely upon organosulfur compounds mostly derived from alliin. Organosulfur compounds originating from garlic inhibit carcinogen activation, boost phase 2 detoxifying processes, cause cell cycle arrest mostly in G2/M phase, stimulate the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, increase acetylation of histones. Garlic-derived sulfur compounds influence also gap-junctional intercellular communication and participate in the development of multidrug resistance. This review presents also other little known aspects of molecular action of garlic-derived compounds, like modulation of cellular redox state, involvement in signal transduction and post-translational modification of proteins by sulfane sulfur or by formation of mixed disulfides (S-thiolation reactions).

Many doctors have seen miracles for chronic acne, sinusitis, intestinal dysbiosis, prostate bacterial infections and severe biofilm congestion in many other organs and glands. The Link of Chronic Diseases to Hidden Infection.
New, stunning worldwide research in the past decade has linked the majority of chronic degenerative diseases, once believed to be due to poor lifestyle choices, genetics or other factors, instead to hidden infections – previously undiagnosed until the recent advent of more sophisticated techniques (such as PCR – polymerase chain technology).
For example, kidney stones have now been linked to nanobacterial infection. Over 80% of heart disease has been linked to infection by Chlamydia pneumoniae.

Medicinal pickled garlic treats colds and flu, sore throats, and helps alleviate digestion issues. It’s easily made with only three ingredients and great to have on hand at the first sign that you might be catching something. You’ll reap all the powerful benefits of the garlic without the intense taste of plain garlic cloves. Many find medicinal pickled garlic incredibly delicious and often addicting so it’s hard to eat just one or two.

“Garlic is the herb of choice in treating colds, flu, sore throats and poor or sluggish digestion… makes a potent internal and external antiseptic, antibacterial, and antimicrobial agent effective for treating many types of infection.”

The benefits of garlic are too long to list here, seriously.
And if you’re not a fan of garlic breath you can take garlic supplements. However, if you’re pregnant, you might want to avoid taking garlic supplements, or at least talk to your doctor about it, as it can cause an increased risk of bleeding.

The Lost Book of Remedies PDF contains a series of medicinal and herbal recipes to make home made remedies from medicinal plants and herbs. Chromic diseases and maladies can be overcome  by taking the remedies outlined in this book. The writer claims that his grandfather was taught herbalism and healing whilst in active service during world war two and that he has treated many soldiers with his home made cures.

Garlic for Colds, Sore Throats or Sinus Headaches

For colds, sore throat, or sinus headaches, hold a clove of raw garlic with the peel removed in the mouth for at least 15 minutes. If this is too hot, use a clove of fermented garlic instead. You can suck on it a bit during that time if you like. Then, chew the clove up and swallow.

Another fast acting sore throat remedy combines garlic with raw manuka honey and cayenne pepper (or turmeric) as a one-two-three punch that is very effective too.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

A glass Mason jar with tight-fitting lid (I usually use a pint-and-a-half, but any size will do)
Enough peeled organic garlic cloves to fill the jar.

Organic apple cider vinegar [Eden’s Organic is awesome] raw local honey from real honeybees
Here’s How I do it:

Fill the jar with garlic cloves.
Pour enough apple cider vinegar over the cloves to totally submerge the garlic.
Put lid on the jar & leave jar in a warm place for 3-4 weeks.
After 3-4 weeks, strain off the liquid into a glass measuring cup. Set aside half of that liquid to use in another capacity (quick pickles, marinades, salad dressing, etc).
Take the remaining half and pour it into a saucepan with an equal amount of raw local honey. Heat over a very low heat, no more than 100° F so as not to kill the good stuff in the honey, stirring until the vinegar & honey are mixed.
Pour that mixture back over the garlic. Allow to sit for ANOTHER 3-4 weeks, it should keep for a year.

How to Prepare Garlic Cloves for Swallowing

When consuming a garlic clove for use either preventatively or therapeutically, you can swallow it whole just like a pill. Be sure to remove the papery covering on each clove first. Follow this approach only if the thought of tasting pure garlic is too overwhelming. If taken this way, consume the clove with a glass of milk or with food to prevent the possibility of indigestion.

If the taste of garlic doesn’t bother you, the most potent method for taking a clove is to crush it with a fork or garlic press. Then, let the crushed clove sit for about 15 minutes on a small plate or cutting board. Letting it stand for a few minutes exposed to the air powers up the anti-microbial properties in the garlic. Then, scoop up the garlic bits on a spoon and swallow it down chased with water, juice or fresh milk.

Garlic Tea for Use Internally or Externally

Garlic tea is easily made by simmering 4 cloves of chopped garlic in one cup of water for 20 minutes. This garlic tea can be used topically on the skin for relieving poison ivy and poison oak. It can also be used to heal boils on the skin.

Garlic tea can also be sipped to help resolve internal infections. Please note that garlic tea will not be as strong or effective as eating whole raw, crushed garlic cloves .

Garlic Oil – Home Remedy for Ear Infections

I used to get ear infections pretty often as a kid. So much so that the doctor recommended putting tubes in my ears. Thank goodness my parents didn’t let him because as coincidence would have it, I stopped getting ear infections shortly afterwards. While ear tubes are not recommend much anymore (some research has shown they could pose more risk than harm) kids still do get ear infections just as often as they did 20 years ago. And as any parent will attest to, it’s disheartening to watch a little one suffer from an ear infection.

This means that even day old garlic oil is not nearly as potent as freshly made.
For me I want the most effective oil to be used, so I choose to make this fresh each time I need it. The remaining oil can be saved for cooking or salad dressing or what have you. However, this is really personal preference as I do know some who keep this oil for months in their medicine cabinet.

Ingredients
2 T organic extra virgin olive oil
1 large clove garlic, finely minced
Glass bottle with dropper
Instructions
To Make:
In a small sauce pan over low heat, warm the olive oil. Make sure to not get the oil too hot that it smokes or even so hot that it will sauté the garlic.
When the oil is WARM add the minced garlic and swirl in the pan. The moment the garlic becomes fragrant remove it from the heat, you’re not actually trying to cook the garlic just heat it to the point it releases its germ fighting compounds. If you get it too hot the allicin degrades much faster.
Place in a small glass container and let cool to a temperature tolerable for use.
Strain the mixture.
Store in a dark colored glass bottle with a dropper.
To Use:
Apply 1-2 drops inside each ear canal as well as rub another drop or so on the external entrance. You can also rub some behind the ear in the area where the lobe connects to the head. In most people there should be a small indentation here to make it easy to identify.
To help keep the oil in the ear you may need to use a little cotton at the entrance of the ear. Or try placing one drop on the cotton in addition to in the canal and keeping it in the ear overnight.
To really boost the healing process, place a hot damp washcloth over the ear for about 20 minutes while the garlic oil is instilled. The damp heat expands the blood vessels so blood, and the germ fighting white blood cells, rush to the area to speed up healing.
The oil should help soothe pain and fight of the bacteria which are causing the infection. Use as often as needed when pain returns.
