White House preparing new semiconductor tariffs
Howard Lutnick confirmed the administration is developing new semiconductor tariffs. Companies that build in the U.S. could receive tariff relief.
The plan could go beyond chips
The administration is reportedly considering tariffs that could also hit products containing semiconductors, including laptops, gaming consoles and data-center servers. That is much bigger than simply taxing imported chips.
TSMC’s U.S. investment becomes even more important
TSMC has committed roughly $265 billion toward U.S. manufacturing. The proposed tariff structure would give companies a strong incentive to make more chips domestically rather than simply pay the tariff.
