Why the crime stats about San Francisco are deceiving and why it really is the most dangerous city in the US

by moderntechguy

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, San Francisco is the most dangerous city in the US. I would know, I lived there for almost 10 years.

Firs, the stats are wrong. The police are under huge pressure to drive them down in order to keep tourism up. Four separate SFPD officers told me how much the stats are fake.

Second, even if they are believable, and we’re below Chicago, Atlanta, etc., they are geographically MUCH bigger cities. So the crime per square mile is MUUUUUUUUUUCH higher in SF. Like off the charts higher.

Third, the crime in most cities is gang on gang. That’s not the case in San Francisco. All the crime is criminal on innocent. It’s an entirely different nature of crime which changes the dynamics entirely.

Lastly, San Francisco has decriminalized so many things that used to be crimes that now, magically, they no longer show up in the statistics…..because they are no longer crimes. The crime is still there, it’s just not…..crime. So the stats no longer show it. Other cities still consider it crime and report it. So in the end you’re comparing apples to oranges.

So for those reasons, don’t pay attention to the stats and come prepared to any argument to prove that San Francisco is a shithole.

edit:

As someone correctly pointed out in the comments, San Francisco residents don’t even bother to call the police for crime anymore since SFPD doesn’t show up. I stopped calling after 2 years since they did not show up once, even for violent crime. Another reason the stats are wildly inaccurate.

I did the math based upon FBI crime statistics (Link to sources and spreadsheet in comments). San Francisco’s crime incident rate is the highest in the country per square mile by far, 2.6x higher than 2nd place, Baltimore. This is why it feels so dangerous to walk around.
