In an episode of “Parts Unknown” based in Massachusetts, Anthony Bourdain brought attention to how big pharma and their pharmaceutical opiates are the precursor to heroin addiction.

In season 4-e7 (on Netflix) Bourdain, a former addict himself, discusses with addiction treatment specialists how addiction to pharmaceutical opiates often leads to heroin dependence. Great episode.

Can you believe a couple years ago congress passed a bill (92-2 in the Senate) to hinder the DEA’s ability to investigate where pharmaceutical are coming from. Crazy huh?
