The law applies to non-Indonesian tourists & immigrants too. As an Indonesian, I’m scared shitless. We already had a case where a woman reporting her sexual harasser ended up jailed because by forwarding evidence of her harassment, she was “distributing pornography”.
Now a woman who was raped can be jailed. A pregnant, unmarried woman will definitely be jailed, because being pregnant is evidence of a crime but abortions are illegal. This is fucked. Now I’m worried an old proposed law about mandatory virginity checks on high school girls will be on the table again. No way I’m letting some stranger diddle my daughter.
How can you help? Boycott Bali. Do you want to risk jail time for a vacation? Don’t travel to Indonesia, don’t glorify traveling to Indonesia.
