Mohsen Shekari was charged with ‘waging war against God’ after riots in Tehran
The execution comes as other detainees also face the death penalty for protests
Germany condemned the regime but said the execution would not stop the riots
Germany strongly condemned Iran on Thursday after the country announced its first public execution, hanging a man over the protests that have shaken the Islamic regime since September.
‘The Iranian regime’s contempt for human life is boundless,’ Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock tweeted after the hanging of 23-year-old Mohsen Shekari following what she called a ‘perfidious summary trial’.
‘But the threat of execution will not suffocate the will for freedom,’ she added.
The protestor was hanged after the regime accused him of injuring a paramilitary member with a knife, in the first official execution in nearly three months of protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini.
