Is Female Genital Mutilation Really Here in America?

By Gabrielle Seunagal

In recent new, occurrences of female genital mutilation (FGM) taking place in America have come to light. A few weeks ago, two Michigan Muslim doctors (Jumana Nagarwala and Fakhruddin Attar) were arrested for mutilating the genital of young girls. FGM is a disgusting and barbaric act involving the mutilation or removal of female genitalia, mainly the clitoris. This takes place in many countries with Islamic rule. There are additional reports of FGM in Africa. Many people of this nation were alarmed to learn of Nagarwala’s and Attar’s heinous crimes against innocent young girls. How many more doctors are doing this who simply have yet to be caught? The fact that FGM is already taking place in America is very frightening. We must be vigilant!

Those who are ignorant about the true nature of FGM have compared it to male circumcision. This comparison is faulty for a plethora of reasons. For starters, unlike male circumcision, female genital mutilation has no health benefits and is coupled with offshoots of urination problems, infections, excessive bleeding, and a higher risk of newborn deaths. Removing the foreskin from a male’s penis actually helps prevent the spread of HIV, while mutilating a girl’s labia and clitoris causes extreme pain, both physical and psychologically. It is one of the ultimate displays of sexism and hatred of female sexuality.

Why are feminists not marching in the streets and protesting against FGM? Why are they silent about one of the most horrific crimes that is afflicted upon young girls? Feminists lose all credibility when they complain about President Trump (who has employed and promoted countless women) yet remain silent about the girls who are literally having their private parts chopped off. This proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that feminists do not care about the protection of girls and women whatsoever. Feminists simply like to complain.

Female genital mutilation must be kept out of America at all costs. We the people have a duty to stop those who would attempt to inflict it upon our young girls. We must prosecute these inhumane beings to the fullest extent of the law. This country will not stand for FGM or anyone who practices it!
