TITLE ‘We had this monster living under our roof and we didn’t know’:
Distraught couple who took in Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz
just THREE months ago say they didn’t see his dark side
a neonatal intensive care nurse,
James Snead, 48,
a military intelligence analyst,
agreed to allow the 19-year-old live in their Parkland home after their son, a friend to Cruz, inquired.
The Sneads recalled receiving the ‘panic-stricken’ phone call from Cruz around 2.30pm that day.
Cruz informed them about a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High –
when James told him to walk to the nearby Walmart and that he was on his way to pick him up.
On Wednesday morning, Cruz told them he didn’t need a ride to school: “It’s Valentine’s Day and I don’t go to school on Valentine’s Day,” he said.
Cruz had a “boxer’s fracture” in his right hand after falling on a step in their house about three weeks ago.
They now think he removed the cast on his hand, the second he’d had, the day of the shooting.
He’d also removed the first cast.
Kimberly last saw him around 10 that morning before she left to run errands.
He said he was going fishing and was gone when she returned.
She went to sleep because she was supposed to work a night shift that night.

So the Sneads, who own guns themselves
and keep them under lock and key,
drove to Lantana to pick up Mr. Cruz and his belongings.
On the way home, Mr. Snead said,
they had Mr. Cruz buy a gun safe
and bring it along in a truck rented from the Home Depot.
