Hardware leaker KeplerL2 posted on NeoGAF that RAM and NAND storage alone for the PlayStation 6 now cost Sony more than $680 per unit. Earlier this year the same source estimated the full bill of materials at roughly $760 in March and near $960 by mid-year. AI data-center demand has driven memory and flash shortages, with GDDR7 prices reported in the $20–23 per GB range versus earlier projections near $3. Adding other components, assembly, and margins makes a retail price above $1,000 the baseline expectation if Sony avoids large per-unit losses; some reports flag $1,200+ as plausible. Sony has said it does not intend to sell next-generation hardware at significant losses. The PS5 Pro already sits at $899 after recent increases. No official PS6 price, specs, or date has been announced; late 2027 remains the common analyst window.
