The Justice Department revealed that U.S. Attorney John Durham, picked by Attorney General William Barr to look into the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation, is investigating whether Ukraine was involved in any 2016 election efforts.
A Department of Justice team led by U.S. Attorney John Durham is separately exploring the extent to which a number of countries, including Ukraine, played a role in the counterintelligence investigation directed at the Trump campaign during the 2016 election,” DOJ spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said Wednesday. “While the Attorney General has yet to contact Ukraine in connection with this investigation, certain Ukrainians who are not members of the government have volunteered information to Mr. Durham, which he is evaluating.”
Mr. Durham’s probe has now cast a spotlight on Ukraine, a Justice Department spokeswoman said.
Ms. Kupec said Ukrainians who are not government officials have already volunteered information as part of the probe. She also said that Mr. Barr has not yet contacted the Ukrainian government over the investigatio
“If I were a betting woman, I’d wager a chunk that this decision by the DOJ — along with the mention of Crowdstrike in the phone call — was what sparked this “whistleblower” into action. And then it became about obfuscation and misdirection, with Democrats on a mission to point everyone’s attention toward comments about Biden and the timing of holding aid so they could start the fireworks show of impeachment in the hopes Ukraine and Crowdstrike would get lost in the noise. None of which happens, it must be noted, without the media’s help.”
