This is almost impossible, but it actually happened. A Malta Air Boeing 737-800 operating Ryanair flight FR1879 from Thessaloniki to Memmingen returned safely to Greece after a cabin window shattered during the climb through FL150, triggering a cabin decompression and the deployment of passenger oxygen masks.
According to reports, a 61-year-old passenger seated next to the damaged window was partially forced into the opening before being pulled back into the cabin by fellow passengers. He was later taken to the hospital for evaluation after the aircraft landed safely approximately 75 minutes after departure.
Initial reports indicate that debris from the engine may have struck the cabin window, although the cause remains under investigation.
Reports indicate the passenger who was sitting next to the broken window was picked up by Greece's National Emergency Center ambulance and taken to AHEPA University General Hospital with a neck injury.
