School Board confronted, local news picks up the story…

A Utah mayor is demanding one of his local school boards immediately remove more than 100 “pornographic” books from its school libraries.

Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs spoke on behalf of his constituents Tuesday. He told the Jordan School District (JSD) school board that “scores of residents” have reached out to him regarding “inappropriate materials” in JSD libraries.

No specific books were mentioned during Tuesday’s meeting. However, JSD parents have pointed to titles “Milk and Honey” and “Oryx and Crake” on social media, both of which have been challenged by parents nationwide for their sexually explicit contents.

“To a large extent, I need to tell you, they feel like they are not being heard,” Staggs said. “This filth needs to be removed from our schools.”

Staggs, who has two children attending JSD, claims that more than 100 library books in the district violate state standards. A law passed last year prohibits any materials containing “pornographic or indecent” content from being placed in Utah public schools.
