“Somebody Else’s Babies”

By Gabrielle Seunagal
Iowa Republican, Steve King attracted criticism after posting a tweet which read the following: “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.” The statement is open ended, mildly confusing, and leaves a plethora of room for interpretation. King would have done well to clarify exactly what people he believes falls into the category of ‘somebody else’s babies.’ People who fall under the category of immigrants appears as the most likely match for ‘somebody else’s babies.’ Nonetheless, King’s tweet was in response to a Dutch parliamentarian who aspires to close all Mosques and ban the Quran.

“Somebody else’s babies.” The coined phrase is both interesting and thought-provoking. Upon hearing it, mild confusion is engendered, but with additional thought, the remark takes on a more insidious implication. Depending on the person speaking, “somebody else’s babies” can include immigrants, people of color, military officers, and others. A plethora of conservatives have spoken out against King’s declaration, noting the contrast that it has with American values. In response to King, Bill Kristol tweeted, “Is it worth making the obvious point that what American history has been about is “restoring” ourselves with “somebody else’s babies?” Kristol has a fair point and in actuality, we as Americans are all ‘somebody else’s babies.’ Legal immigrants who have come to this country are ‘somebody else’s babies.’ Descendants of legal immigrants and slaves are ‘somebody else’s babies.’ Regardless of race, class, ethnicity, religion, etc, we all can be classified as ‘somebody else’s babies.’

Republican consultant, Paris Dennard made a fair point on CNN when discussing King’s latest controversial comments. Dennard’s statement that  King tapped into an anger and fear that some Americans have in relations to the plight of illegal immigration is accurate. He clarified that he was not defending King’s remarks, but merely observing the potential root. Dennard also correctly asserted that King should have phrased his thoughts differently.

Regardless of King’s intentions, the support of David Duke does not help his cause. Duke is an infamous former KKK grand wizard and in response to King, he tweeted: “GOD BLESS STEVE KING!!! #TruthRISING.” A person’s supporters are a vivid representation of who they are and the support of an indisputable racist does not paint King in a favorable light. ‘Somebody else’s babies’ is an insensitive remark at best and xenophobic at worse. Many people have interpreted the statement as an attack on immigrants and Duke’s support has only further confirmed those beliefs.
The severe backlash has not hindered King from firmly standing behind his assertions. Earlier this morning, King expressed his desire to see “an America that’s just so homogeneous that we look a lot the same, from that perspective.” He also stated that he was not backing down and meant exactly what he said in the controversial tweet.

  1. Well, demokrats like president Truman and the distinguished demokrat leader Robert Byrd (one of Hillary’s mentors) were both KKK. And Byrd much more so than David Duke, who is here used to discredit Steve King.
The silence from the perpetual dishonest left in this matter is deplorable, but not surprising.

    • This is how the KKK was BORN — White CARPETBAGGERS (George Soros, the Clintons & Liberals) instigating the ignorant freed slaves to commit crimes and assault White People. George Soros’ DANCING DARKIES ……. Hardly anyone, even southerners, understand that racism in the South originated in the horrors that were inflicted on the South during the Reconstruction era that followed the military defeat of the Confederacy. The North inflicted blacks on southerners in ways that harmed prospects for relations between the races and gave rise to the KKK as a resistance movement. As Reconstruction faded, so did the KKK. It was later revived as a shadow of its former self by poor whites who were ambitious for personal power.

  2. Good. About time whites started defending their own. Literally every other ethnic group does this. The one group who doesn’t will get trampled.

  3. Sounds pretty simple to me. You can’t send African babies to China to maintain a Chinese culture nor can you send Chinese people to maintain Arab culture. Suddenly it’s confusing when you say the same thing regarding European culture. Apparently defending your culture and civilization from extinction is controversial.

  4. Those JUDAS GOATS like Madonna, “lady” Gaga, Katy Perry, Milley Cyrus, who teach your children that promiscuity and intoxication are harmless and safe ……. they should be stripped of ALL their wealth to pay for rehabilitation of those they MISled . These so-called female “entertainers” who GROOM young girls into sordid lives and walk away counting their money are nothing but highly paid PIMP’S enablers.
What dignity or respect do you give a “female” wearing her genitals on her head? Their entire thought processes revolve around THEIR pussies.
The people behind the progressive feminist movement have all-but destroyed the normal family unit (Rothchild, Rockefeller and his elite pals wanted to put women to work so they could tax both adults in the household, but on top of that, working women are less likely to reproduce than stay-at-home-moms

  5. Thank “capitalism” Instead of having babies/families White Christians were “diverted” into working their lives away to PRODUCE in the name of Capitalism ……. People worked to serve the “machine” instead of the Machine serving Christ.
Talk about BAD STEWARDS ….. the 1% has utterly failed Christ and HIS People. Their businesses should have been the basis for providing life’s necessities for the Community of Christ. Instead they are providing a petrie dish for growing the disease of barbarism from paganism at home to invading ISLAM. Without a Christian base and Western philosophy the laws that allow these corporations would never have been written.
Yes, communism/socialism are worse, but not by much. Christians should have been raising Children, not the bank accounts of the 1%.
Instead of working to create a strong, healthy, growing, society, the Rich “Harvested the corners of the fields” and gathered every grain into THEIR castles and cared not for the Culture and Religion that made their very existence possible.
Time for the 1% and Corporations to contribute PROPORTIONATELY to the National Defense.
Those who have massive material goods must contribute proportionately to protecting them.
If the 1% were paying proportionately they would become concerned about waste, fraud & THEFT in the Pentagon.
The Workers give their LIVES maimed and killed.
The Workers Pay high taxes for ONE house with a MORTGAGE.
The !% and Corporations have multiple houses, pay ever decreasing taxes and enjoy the FAT of the land.
And no more TAX DODGING “trusts”, “endowments” and “foundations” where they still CONTROL their money, they just don’t PAY TAXES. Spend the money in 5 years or it goes to the National Debt.
“Merchants have no country,” wrote Thomas Jefferson in 1814. “The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.” The former president was ruing the way New England traders and shipowners, fearing the loss of lucrative transatlantic commerce, failed to rally to their country in the War of 1812.
Since pseudo-conservatives/neocons , are so enamored of the words of our forefathers would someone please dig out the old Sermons preached in American churches about the FOUL MERCANTILISTS whose ONLY loyalty is to money. Neither Nation nor Church holds the devotion of these squalid creatures, but only the source of their next dollar.

    Mildly confusing?
It’s unbelievably brainless and extremely confusing.
The simple scientific facts are these.
Populations in advanced countries do not have enough children to replace their existing populations.
Therefore, declines in size are the future without migration.
So legal migration is a necessity.
If you want also to have a decent society, you must accept some of the world’s many refugees too.
After all, America has signed binding treaties to that end.
But America has a bigger ethical obligation than most for the simple reason that its imperial wars have caused so much uprootedness and destruction. Syria, Libya, Yemen, etc.
America resembles the world’s horror state when it claims the right to go bombing and destroying in many lands and then says of the results, “It’s none of our concern.’
So far, Trump is proving a terrible disappointment.
He hasn’t ended any war. He may just increase some. Yet he rails on about refugees.
