Storm Adam hit the Mediterranean coast over the weekend and into Monday. Pego in Alicante recorded more than 600 mm in 24 hours, the heaviest since 1987. Rivers burst banks. Helicopters lifted people from rooftops. Authorities ordered shelter-in-place for about 850,000 residents across 145 municipalities before reducing the number. Four people died: a 35-year-old woman swept away with her child in Cabrera de Mar near Barcelona, a woman who drowned while swimming in Sagunto, a 79-year-old found in her flooded Oliva home, and a 64-year-old who suffered cardiac arrest at an Oliva campsite. Military units and national police deployed. Scenes recalled the 2024 Valencia floods that killed more than 230.
