Tesla shares fell about 5% in premarket trading today after the company cut its 2026 capital-spending forecast from more than $25 billion to about $20 billion. On October 21, Tesla reported third-quarter revenue of about $28 billion, while operating income fell 56% year over year to $718 million; battery availability constrained vehicle production. The spending reduction improves near-term cash preservation, but investors are questioning whether Tesla can fund its robotaxi, Optimus robotics and AI-computing ambitions without slowing execution. Tesla says spending should rise again in 2027 and 2028.
