As the earth is at solar minimum, the forecast for cycle 25 is weaker than cycle 24, and possible the weakest in 200 years.
While science still has much to understand about how the solar cycle affects earth’s climate, it’s generally accepted that a reduction in the sun’s irradiance will lower temperatures on the surface of the earth and the sun’s irradiance varies with the sunspot cycle.
So the earth could be heading toward cooler climate if this forecast holds and the trend continues.
This article is about the current solar minimum which is described “century class”.
But what is most interesting in the chart of “400 years of sunspot observations”. Looking a low around 1650-1700, this was know as the “little ice age”.
