My novelty/dark horse prediction for next US military intervention is not Ukraine, Iran or Taiwan.
It’s Colombia.
This country has always been a reliable US satellite state.
Losing it to a Hugo Chavez style populist in a coalition with FARC rebels is a shocking development and testament to Washington’s rapidly shrinking global power.
If this guy goes through with his campaign promises, US special forces are going to soon be in Bogota working with the heavily bribed and blackmailed military establishment to take this elected government out.
Among the many things Gustavo Petro wants to change as Colombia’s next president is his country’s fractured relationship with Venezuela — its most important neighbour but for years a bitter political foe. t.co/a0YHB8F3D1 @FT @gideon_long
