The NY Times admits that the White House claim that Putin is being misinformed because his subordinates fear him is part of an ongoing White House “information warfare campaign.”
Meaning, it’s bullshit.
The story is dumb on its face, and is clearly meant to invoke cold war era images of a delusional and paranoid Stalin executing the sweaty and trembling minor official that has to go before him to report that his factory has not met production quotas.
