Skies over Kirandul and Dantewada in Chhattisgarh turned deep blood red in videos that went viral. Strong winds and unsettled weather hit the area as remnants of Cyclone Arnab moved inland. The storm made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28 with sustained winds around 130 kmph and gusts to 150 kmph before it weakened. IMD reported the system had become a depression by October 29. Winds in the region hit 60 to 80 kmph with gusts to 90. Experts point to dust and iron rich soil lifted by the winds or Rayleigh scattering through storm moisture and particles. Exact cause not confirmed. Similar red skies showed up in Australia during Cyclone Narelle earlier this year.
