Trump cuts off Medicaid money for gender surgeries and hormones on kids

Federal Medicaid dollars will no longer pay for sex-change surgeries, hormones or puberty blockers for children under 18.
CHIP funding for the same treatments stops for people under 19.
President Trump said he ordered the change and called the procedures barbaric.
CMS and HHS say the treatments lack solid evidence of benefit and carry risks of infertility, bone loss and other lasting harm.
The rule starts October 13 2026 with a six-month taper for kids already on hormones.
States that want to keep covering it must use their own funds.
