Trump defends Russia sanctions waiver after bipartisan criticism

President Trump on Sunday justified his decision to waive new sanctions and tariffs on Russia under the Lindsey Graham Act, saying he does not want to drive Moscow away from the bargaining table. The waiver followed his temporary diesel supply deal with Russia and his criticism of Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries as a “disgrace.” Zelensky has called the diesel deal money in Putin’s pocket. European leaders have opposed easing pressure on Russia. Ukraine launched more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, hitting St. Petersburg oil sites after Trump’s claimed energy ceasefire.
