Two chemical tankers catch fire in Romanian Black Sea waters; seven crew missing from Wine Trader

Early today the San Marino-flagged chemical tanker Wine Trader reported a fire and explosions about 13 nautical miles southeast of Sulina, inside Romanian territorial waters near the Danube mouth. Five of its 12 crew were rescued; seven remain missing. Search and rescue continues in rough seas with helicopters and boats. Late Wednesday the Comoros-flagged Yara J also caught fire nearby; its crew extinguished the blaze and are safe. Romanian authorities detected Russian drones overnight near Snake Island and one briefly entered Romanian airspace near Sulina. Officials have not confirmed the cause of either fire but are investigating amid a recent series of drone strikes on shipping in the Black Sea that have hit vessels off Romania and Bulgaria.
