The Government of Venezuela has formalized before the World Health Organization (WHO) its finding on the DR-10 molecule to treat covid-19, after the president, Nicolás Maduro, announced on Sunday that scientists from that country had achieved develop a drug that “100%” cancels the disease.
Vice President Delcy Rodríguez reported on Monday night that during a meeting with the representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the WHO in Venezuela, Pier Paolo Balladelli, shared the results of the preclinical study of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (Ivic ) on the molecule, belonging to a medicinal plant.
“We have formalized this finding before the WHO to begin the corresponding international procedures, with a view to certification and registration,” added the vice president.
No toxicity
This meeting was held a day after Maduro announced during a television broadcast that that country had managed to develop a drug, based on DR-10, that 100% inhibits covid-19 without any type of toxicity that affects to healthy molecules.
During the presidential announcement, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, explained that a group of Venezuelan scientists began a chemical study in isolated cells infected with viruses from patients positive for coronavirus who were given various concentrations of the molecule, which It is a derivative of ursolic acid (a triterpene compound found in various fruits and vegetables).
“This molecule shows 100% inhibition of virus replication ‘in vitro’. It was evaluated in healthy cells without showing toxicity,” said the minister.
