WEF promotes Marburg virus, surveillance and detection and vaccines!

‘At least 16 cases of Marburg virus have been detected in Equatorial Guinea, with nine deaths.
It is a filovirus closely related to Ebola, and is part of a broader group of viruses that can cause viral haemorrhagic fever.
There are no approved treatments, but vaccines are under development.
This means non-pharmaceutical measures are the best hope for controlling the epidemic, such as surveillance and detection, and isolating those who may have it.
If it continues to spread, the World Health Organization may declare a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, as it did with Ebola in 2019.’

The vaccine…

Methods

We did a first-in-human, phase 1, open-label, dose-escalation trial of the cAd3-Marburg vaccine at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Clinical Trials Center in the USA.

Interpretation

This first-in-human trial of this cAd3-Marburg vaccine showed the agent is safe and immunogenic, with a safety profile similar to previously tested cAd3-vectored filovirus vaccines.
