Voters have been warned: Trump says he would veto everything if Democrats win Congress

With Election Day days away, the president is openly promising to veto any legislation a Democratic Congress sends him — a threat that collides with must-pass funding bills and the debt limit.

President Donald Trump says his veto pen could render a Democratic-controlled Congress ineffective before it even gets started. Speaking to reporters as he left the White House for a campaign rally in Florida, Trump promised that if voters put Democrats in charge of either chamber on Nov. 3, he would block essentially everything they send him next year.

Per Roll Call, Trump told reporters before boarding Marine One: “What happens is I veto everything, and then the Democrats come and they want to make a deal.” The remark, made as he departed for a Florida campaign rally, has stirred an internal debate among Democrats about what a legislative agenda can even look like in divided Washington — and it has put government funding and the debt limit in the spotlight.
