Social media and a Telegram group called GenZ in Opstand put out calls for young people to gather on the Malieveld at 2pm today and walk to the Binnenhof and the city center. No one registered a demonstration with the city. Mayor Jan van Zanen’s office says The Hague is “alert and prepared.” Police will be visibly present and will step in if public order gets disrupted. Shops on Grote Marktstraat and elsewhere (Guess, Kruidvat, ICI Paris XL, Tommy Hilfiger) boarded up windows after threats. Interior Minister Pieter Heerma flagged “alarming reports” of possible youth riots this weekend and told people to behave. In September a far-right demo on the Malieveld got its planned city march cancelled, then was fully broken up after violence, fireworks, and face coverings. This time the online plan explicitly aims at the center, and authorities are treating it as a possible disruption risk rather than blocking the gathering outright in advance.
