Video from the scene reveals the panic has people on the beach in Terrigal, Australia, flee in the horror from the explosions.
Two technicians were forced to jump from the barge as it blew up – igniting all the fireworks and sending them showering into the crowds.
Both luckily escaped with minor injuries in the colossal explosion.
Witnesses said the barge simply “blew up” and described the New Year’s Eve display as going “terribly wrong”.
Fire was spotted on the barge before it started to explode, according to witness reports.
