The Ruling Establishment have always had two main ways of controlling their domestic population, to stay in power and pursue their agenda.
One is “Divide and Conquer”.
Get different sections of their own people hating each other, so they don’t hate the Ruling Elites who are causing the problems.
Having two main political parties is a very effective way of achieving this.
The second is Fear.
This could be fear of a vengeful God or being sent to Hell.
Or Fear of a foreign threat that the Ruling Establishment has invented or wants to attack.
The Neocons, the Military Industrial Complex, the Establishment, and the Mainstream Media, invent and exaggerate non-existent foreign threats because:
A fearful, ignorant, gullible, and outright deceived public is much easier to control for Establishment interests.
Russia is a particular favorite of the Establishment, as a target for the American public to hate.
This is an historical leftover from the Cold War and the Bolshevik USSR.
Don’t let 50 years of previous propaganda go to waste!
If the people hate the Russians they will hate the American Oligarchs, Bankers, Arms Companies and War Propagandists etc. much less.
They will be blinded by hate and won’t see the truth.
The Neocons and Military Industrial Complex depend on war and conflict, and the trillion dollar a year war budget for their incomes.
Lots of the Establishment derive large parts of their incomes from war, arms company lobbying and lobbying or “donations” from foreign countries who want war (Israel & Saudi the main ones).
The media make money from war and conflict because it increases their audience size and thus increases the amount they can charge for advertising.
There’s nothing like a good War to boost ratings – see “Shock and Awe!”.
It is very easy to get people to hate some mythological foreign threat, to deflect from corrupt politicians at home. The corrupt Establishment has been using this tactic to remain in power and pursue their desired agendas ever since civilization began.
NOTHING has changed in the last 5,000 years. The rulers are still power hungry psychopaths. If they weren’t power hunger psychopaths they wouldn’t get to be rulers. Anyone who acts significantly against the interests of the Establishment or the MIC or the bankers is murdered by the Establishment – see JFK, MLK, Malcolm X, RFK etc. Or relentlessly smeared by the Corporate media until they become “unpersons” in the eyes of the public (see e.g. Tulsi Gabbard currently).
Julian Assange is currently being tortured to death in UK’s Belmarsh prison.
1984 is a template for how the Ruling Establishment plays and controls the public:
Perpetual War with constantly changing enemies (we have always been at war with Eurasia).
U.S. was friends with Saddam Hussein from the 1960’s (he was installed into power by the CIA) until 1989 when the Iraq-Iran war ended and then he became an American enemy.
He became an enemy because he refused to do an “arms for oil deal” as the Saudis had done in the 1970’s, not because he was an ” Evil Dictator”. The Saudis are just as evil as Saddam Hussein.
Saddam’s mustard gas and other chemical weapons he used to gas the Iranians and later the Kurds, was supplied by the US, the UK and Germany, in the mid 1980’s.
U.S. was supposedly enemies of al-Qaeda. But then they started arming al-Qaeda in 2011 for Regime Change in Libya and Syria and the new terrorist “enemy” that America created became ISIS.
The U.S. created al-Qaeda by arming the Mujahideen from July 1979 to get the Soviets to intervene and used Osama Bin Laden as a CIA courier in the 1980’s transporting weapons and money from Pakistan into Afghanistan – that’s how Bin Laden got started.
U.S. was friends with Assad in the “War on Terror” in 2002 but then he became an enemy with “Assad must go”.
Tony Blair and Nancy Pelosi both made separate visits as friends to Assad in Damascus in 2002.
Syrian President Assad and his wife Asma were invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen in December 2012, for a State Visit.
Who in the MSM is going to remind anyone about this?
U.S. armed the Mujahideen in the 1980’s but has been fighting them ever since 2001.
The U.S.was friends with Russia in the 1990’s when American banks were looting Russia and causing the Russian economy to collapse, and Clinton’s puppet Boris Yeltsin was in power.
But since Putin turned the Russian economy around, kicked the big American banks like Goldman Sachs and Merryl Lynch out of the country around 2002 and refused to support the disastrous Iraq invasion, Russia is now the U.S. Establishment’s enemy.
N.B. the US rigged the 1996 Russian election using millions of dollars to keep Yeltsin in power, when he was set to lose.Yeltsin was extremely corrupt and incompetent, and also a drunk.

Create imaginary Foreign Threats: Emmanuel Goldstein is Putin and the imaginary threat is Russia. (And to a lesser extent Assad and Iran.)
Previously in 2001, Emmanuel Goldstein was Osama Bin Laden.
The U.S. always likes to create a face for Americans to hate. It is much easier to get people to hate a face than an entire country. So the American Establishment demonizes Putin, Assad, Saddam Hussein, Gaddafi etc. and creates a face for terrorism like Osama bin Laden and Baghdadi.
Keep the ordinary people impoverished and distracted so they don’t have too much time to think about how the Ruling Party are using Big Brother and lies to screw and deceive them.
Use 24/7 relentless propaganda and rewrite history to fool the masses.
Use Mass Censorship and Suppression of anything the Establishment doesn’t like and doesn’t want the public to know.
Use Mass Surveillance for Social and Political control and to track any dissenters who the Establishment haven’t managed to brainwash or who have now broken free.
etc. etc.
