Bessent said in January the IRS is auditing banks that moved Minnesota fraud money

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced it January 9 while in Minnesota. IRS civil enforcement is auditing financial institutions that helped launder social-services fraud funds. FinCEN sent investigation notices to four money services businesses and put a geographic targeting order on banks and transmitters in Hennepin and Ramsey counties. That order forces extra reporting on transfers of $3,000 or more leaving the country. It was renewed in August. Prosecutors have charged dozens of people in schemes that took hundreds of millions (later estimates ran into the billions) from child-nutrition and other programs. The “breaking” posts circulating now are recycling the January announcement.
