About 1/3 of all retail sales are to Chinese tourists, who have dominated the tourist influx in recent years. 20 years ago they would broadcast announcements in English and Japanese; now they have either added Chinese or simply replaced the English with it.
Now we have sudden lockdown and I’m not hearing Chinese everywhere in the streets like the past few years. Also this place is the #2 most cases/deaths nation after china…lots of fear, masks sold out, etc.
Things have the potentially to get hairy all over East Asia.
