Coup. President Pedro Castillo announces his decision to close the Congress of the Republic and “exception government”. This in a message to the Nation a few hours after the debate on the vacancy motion against him and in the midst of serious accusations against him.
“To convene in the shortest term elections for a new Congress with constituent powers to prepare a new Constitution within a period not exceeding nine months. As of that date and until the new Congress is established, it will be governed by decree law”, Castillo exclaimed when breaking the constitutional order.
Castillo also decreed a nationwide curfew starting today, Wednesday, December 7, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day. He also declares the justice system to be reorganized: the Judiciary, the Public Ministry, the National Board of Justice, the Constitutional Court.
In addition, he said that all those who possess illegal weapons must turn them in to the National Police within 72 hours. “Whoever does not do so commits a crime punishable by imprisonment that will be established in the decree law,” he exclaimed.
