French high-school protests that started mid-September continue with blockades, arrests and injuries

Demonstrations by lycée students began around 18 September in the Paris suburb of Créteil over missing teachers, overcrowded classes, rundown buildings and the Parcoursup admissions system. The action spread nationwide, with school blockades, marches and clashes. By early October unions estimated hundreds of thousands participating; the government put figures lower. Thousands have been arrested, the large majority minors, and hundreds injured among students, staff and police. On 9 October the education ministry said it was sending about 3,000 additional teachers into classrooms. Protests continued into mid-October, with further nationwide mobilizations. Student unions list demands for emergency building repairs, more hiring, reformed hours and changes to Parcoursup. The government has called some grievances legitimate while condemning violence.
