A group of Massachusetts shoppers tackled a man and pinned him to the ground until police arrived after catching him allegedly coughing and spitting on produce, fanning coronavirus fears.

Cell phone video shot from inside a Stop & Shop in Kingston on Saturday showed at least three men on top of the man as in the produce aisle. “Don’t try and get up,” one of the shoppers tells the man pinned to the floor.

Man arrested in Yuma after posting video of coughing on a gas pump handle

A man was arrested in Yuma after coughing on a gas pump handle, the Yuma Police Department said.

A 23-year-old man from Winterhaven, California, was arrested by Yuma police for Unlawful Use of Infectious Biological Substance after police received numerous Facebook messages sharing the video on Saturday evening, Sgt. Lori Franklin said. The video showed the man coughing on the gas pump handle and referencing the spread of the new coronavirus.

The investigation led to finding the man’s name and address. The man was willingly interviewed by Yuma police on Sunday, Franklin said.

Carrollton police are looking for a woman they say claims to have COVID-19 and is “willfully spreading it.”

Police will charge 18-year-old Lorraine Maradiaga with making a terroristic threat, according to a tweet from the department.

“We have no confirmation Maradiaga is actually a threat to public health,” the tweet said. “We are, however, taking her social media actions very seriously.”
