MILWAUKEE – The results of the latest Marquette University Law School poll were released on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The latest national survey was conducted from Sept. 2–9, 2026. Here’s what it found.

A national Marquette Law School Poll shows Democrats leading Republicans 54% to 41% among likely voters for November’s congressional elections. In July, the Democratic advantage was 51% to 45%.

Among registered voters, Democrats hold a 50% to 42% lead, widening the gap from a tighter 46% to 44% margin in July.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten pointed to a “big league” shift in party identification toward Democrats Wednesday, arguing that movement on one of the electorate’s underlying measures could indicate the party was on course to “win the House” in November.

The warning came as fresh polling showed Democrats widening their advantage on the generic congressional ballot. CNN anchor John Berman noted that a new Marquette Law School survey found Democratic candidates leading Republicans 54% to 41% among likely voters, while Democrats held an 8-point advantage among registered voters, 50% to 42%.

Appearing with Berman on CNN News Central, Enten said the headline ballot numbers were being reinforced by a broader change in how voters identify politically.

“One thing absolutely jumped out to me, to borrow from President [Donald] Trump’s language, big league, big league,” Enten said. “It is the party ID margin: that is, you identify as a Democrat or Republican.”
