As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we created the FDIC Documentary to honor the fallen, remember their sacrifice, and preserve the stories of those who experienced that day and its aftermath.
One of those stories comes from Firefighter John O’Connell, who shares a remarkable account from the weeks following 9/11. In this clip, O’Connell recalls being called to a highly secured meeting in Manhattan and learning about the gold and silver stored beneath the World Trade Center.
He goes on to describe entering the vault and seeing gold stacked from floor to ceiling, offering a firsthand account of an extraordinary moment in the aftermath of September 11.
