A note on Paraguay: we aren’t just mad because we can’t access our money (although that in itself is awful), but because said bank went bankrupt because they used PUBLIC FUNDS to give out GIGANTIC loans to people connected to the president

PARAGUAY WON’T CALM DOWN! NOT EVEN PEÑA’S RESIGNATION HALTS THE PROTESTS: THE STREETS DEMAND THEY RETURN THE MONEY
The political and financial crisis continues to shake Paraguay! Young people, workers, retirees, and savers keep mobilizing in Asunción following Santiago Peña’s resignation.
They demand the full return of deposits affected by the collapse of Ueno Bank, an institution with approximately 2.9 million customers, and answers for the nearly US$350 million from the Social Security Institute (IPS) committed in the crisis.
The anger doesn’t stop: protesters also demand that the impeachment trial move forward and that those responsible face justice. The resignation has fallen, but the outrage keeps burning in Paraguay’s streets!

New VAT calculation could put Brazil at the top of the global tax rankings
October 29 — Proposed VAT rate rises toward 30%
Brazil’s audit court proposed an 11.3% federal CBS rate for 2027, above the government’s previous 9.21% estimate. Combined with an estimated 18.7% state and municipal IBS rate, the eventual VAT could reach roughly 30%. The FIESP business federation estimates the higher federal rate could mean more than R$100 billion in additional taxes.
Petro faces allegations that government contracts were exchanged for sex
November 5 — Woman publishes intimate video and takes allegations to investigators
Deicy Jiménez, a former government contractor, accuses former President Gustavo Petro of offering public contracts to her and more than 30 other women in exchange for intimate relations. She published a video showing the two together. Ten of her government contracts have reportedly been identified in the official database. Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office and Inspector General have opened investigations. Petro denies ever exchanging contracts for sexual favors. The video establishes that they knew each other; it does not independently prove the alleged exchange.
Attorney general arrested in alleged drug-trafficking corruption network
October 1 — Prosecutors’ office and judiciary targeted in major anti-corruption operation
Bolivian authorities arrested Attorney General Roger Mariaca and 13 others in an operation targeting an alleged criminal organization embedded in the judiciary and Public Prosecutor’s Office. The U.S. had accused Mariaca of accepting bribes linked to drug trafficking and helping criminals evade justice. Mariaca denies the allegations. The government’s description of the operation is an allegation, not a final judicial finding.
