Areas affected…South TX

Concerning…Severe Thunderstorm Watch 164…

Valid 231459Z – 231630Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 164
continues.

SUMMARY…The threat for damaging gust and large hail continues
across south TX.

DISCUSSION…Cluster of severe thunderstorms, anchored by the
supercell moving through Webb County TX, continues to move southward
across south TX. This cluster appeared to be elevated early this
morning, but recent radar trends and observed gusts suggest that a
transition to surface based is underway. A 47 kt gust was recently
observed at LRD.

The downstream air mass is moist and unstable, and the expectation
is for this cluster to persist as it continues southward through
Deep South TX. Strong outflow associated with this cluster will
continue to pose a risk for damaging gusts, while large hail will
remain possible as well.

Areas affected…Lower Rio Grande Valley

Concerning…Severe Thunderstorm Watch 164…

Valid 231754Z – 231900Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 164
continues.

SUMMARY…Threat for strong to severe gusts will continue across the
Lower Rio Grande Valley.

DISCUSSION…An organized line of thunderstorms continues to push
southward across Deep South TX at around 40 kt. This line has
produced numerous strong to severe gusts over the last 2 hours. Time
series of the CRP VAD shows a portion of rear-inflow jet that
accompanies this line.

The downstream air mass remains warm, moist, and unstable, with
temperatures in the low 80s, dewpoints in the low/mid 70s, and
MLCAPE over 2000 J/kg. Southerly winds ahead of the front are
gusting 30 to 35 kt, with strong convergence ongoing along the storm
outflow. The threat for severe winds gusts will continue over the
next hour to hour and a half as the line moves through the Lower Rio
Grande Valley.
