Owner of Danvers store calls out DA Rachael Rollins’ shoplifting policy after thousands in coats stolen

With nearly tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise stolen from his clothing store over the past month, Alan Gibeley said that prosecutors who go easy on shoplifters — such as Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins — are threatening his business and putting the well-being of his employees at risk.

“The easier shoplifting is, the more people there’ll be trying to do it, and that’s what we’re faced with right now,” said Gibeley, owner of Giblees Menswear & Tuxedos in Danvers. “These people really need to be prosecuted to the fullest to stop it from happening again. If they get off, they’re just going to do it again.”

Gibeley’s shop is in Essex County, but the five shoplifters charged with targeting his shop came from Boston, where he believes Rollins’ no-prosecute list is sending a bad message.
