Pete Hegseth calls critical reporting on Iran war ‘treason’
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is delivering a “state of the force” address to a group of senior military leaders at the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., where, after griping about diversity, he attacked the media for what he claimed are “delusional” reports about his “four to five week” war in Iran that’s now in its seventh month.
In particular, Hegseth accused the media of “disingenuous claims about deployment length,” apparently referring to reporting about dire conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln amid a record-setting 250+ days at sea.
“A free press is of course important,” Hegseth said, grimacing. “But partisan activism that intentionally smears the troops is fundamentally anti-American. It’s sick, it’s a national betrayal — it’s treason, actually.”
